Order texts and post-delivery tips

Delitero is launching soon. Join the waitlist and we will email you when it opens.

A customer can ask to be texted about their order. If they do, they get exactly one text: when a delivery goes out, or when a pickup order is ready. If they do not, nothing is sent and nothing is stored.

The consent is real consent

The checkbox at checkout is unchecked when the page loads, every time, and the label says what it is for: "Text me updates about this order", with the rate notice and the way out underneath it. Leaving it alone sends nothing. Ticking it stores three things: that consent was given, when, and for which number.

There is no marketing behind it. No list is built, no second message follows, and a phone number given for an order is never used to sell anything. That is not a policy we could change quietly: there is one message body in the code and it is about the order.

What the text says

One line naming your business and the order number, a link to the order status page, and the opt-out. A delivery order says the order is on its way; a pickup order says it is ready to collect. There is no third message, and no message for any other state.

Replying STOP opts the number out immediately and permanently until the customer opts back in. Replying START, UNSTOP or YES puts it back. Replying HELP returns a short line saying what these texts are and how to reach support. Those are the carrier keywords and they work because they have to.

Where the promise appears

If a customer opted in, the confirmation and the status page say what will be texted and when, anchored to the event that is actually going to happen. If the order has already passed that point, the promise is not shown, because there is nothing left to promise. If they did not opt in, nothing is said at all.

The escalation texts are a different thing

Do not confuse these with the watchdog. The watchdog texts and calls you when a paid order sits unaccepted: on the Orders screen at 1:00, a text at 2:00, a phone call at 4:00, to the number you configured. Those go to the business and never to a customer. Order texts go to a customer who asked for one and never to you.

Tips after delivery

Where you have it enabled, a customer can add a tip after the order has arrived, from the order status page, for a limited window. It is a separate payment on your Stripe account, and it goes to you in full: Delitero's 5% does not apply to a tip, before or after.

The window is the only thing that gates it. When it has passed, the module is simply not there. There is no greyed-out button and no countdown, because a closed thing should look closed rather than teasing.

A tip is charged when the customer commits to it, not before, and the amount locks once the payment exists so a half-finished tip cannot be quietly changed. In New Hampshire the state taxes the part of a gratuity above 18% of the meal; where that applies, the sheet says exactly what the card will be charged and why before the customer confirms, and the receipt shows the tax on its own line. That tax is the state's, not ours.
